Introduction:The German corporate world was extremely hostile to the Private Equity Firms (PEFs) and kept them at a distance. However, the changing competitive scenario had forced the German corporates to dealmore andmore with PEFs.

While some experts suggested that the growing clout of the PEFs would eventually bring about positive changes in the German corporate landscape, others held the view that the PEFswere increasingly dealingwithGerman companies as the former viewed this association solely as an opportunity for making profits. So, it was debatable whether the German companies would be benefited by the activities of the PEFs, whose origin could be traced back to the late 1960s.
